About School of New Media
The School of New Media at Peking University was founded in February 2014. It is a teaching and research institution focused on the creative development of new media. The School aims at promoting theoretical understanding, technological innovation and industry development in the field of new media. It also hopes to provide social services based on rigorous social research, teaching and advocacy. The School of New Media boasts some of the top teaching and research scholars in their fields. Our faculty comes from a variety of academic backgrounds including communications, information science, management, sociology, psychology and computer science. Program Overview
To meet the needs of a rapidly changing society and global economy, Peking University’s School of New Media offers an English taught master’s program in new media. The program aims at educating and developing young scholars and professionals in the new media field both in China and globally. Program curriculum includes a variety of courses on theory, methods and critical issues in new media and online communication field. The program lasts 2 years and requires students to complete 30 credits for get the degree.

Program requirement
1. Non-Chinese citizens with a Bachelor Degree; For mainland Chinese students, Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan residents who have immigrated to a foreign country and now apply the program as foreign students, they shall hold valid foreign passports or nationality certificates before November 30, 2013, and have certificates of cancellation of Chinese nationality;
2. Applicants who are not native English speakers are required to demonstrate English language proficiency by providing TOEFL scores of no less than 100.
How to Apply
Applicants should go through the international students’ online application process at http://www.studyatpku.com and submit the following materials to the program office.
1. Peking University Application Form for International Students (Master and Ph.D. Programs) with a photograph fixed.
2. A 1500-word personal statement.
3. Resume or Curriculum Vitae. The format of the resume can be downloaded at www.isd.pku.edu.cn.
4. Graduation certificate and degree diploma.
5. Official transcripts of your academic achievement up to the present, including courses taken and standard achieved (must be original documents or certified copies either in Chinese or English).
6. Two recommendation letters from your referees. The referees should be professors or persons with relevant academic title. At least one of them should have knowledge of your recent academic work. The format of the recommendation letter must be original documents either in Chinese or English.
7. One photocopy of your valid passport (passport type must be ordinary)..
Deadline for Application
The deadline for applications is March 1, 2020. All application materials should reach the international office before the deadline. Please send the materials to International Students Division, Office of International Relations, New Sun Student Center, Peking University, Beijing, 100871, P. R. China. (The envelope must be marked “Application for English taught Master program in New Media”). All the application materials would not be returned.
Admission Evaluation
1. Initial screening. After School of New Media got the applicants’ materials (those who have met the basic application requirements) from the International Student Office, the admission committee select qualified students based on the applicant’s academic record, his/her research agenda, the strength of the recommendation letters, and other application materials that could be evidence of his/her intellectual ability.
2. Evaluative Interview. Applications who passed the screening will receive an evaluative interview in March 2020. Based on the interview result, the admission committee makes its recommendations for admission to School of New Media. The Graduate School of Peking University reviews the admission results and makes a formal admission decision. The International Students Division, Office of International Relations of PKU will issue the "Admission Notice" to the successful candidates before the end of June 2020.
